Hi I'm new here, and this is my first post.
Is memory foam safe to use as a mattress for children? Thanks |

I've seen a number of vendors selling memory foam mattressess for children, and the traditional mattress material for infants is foam based.
There is certainly advice that you should use a new mattress for a new baby (ie not reuse mattressess) |

And follow the other advice in relation to cot death, principally lay the baby on its back, in its own cot and keep the baby cool, so not too many blankets.

I would say that any mattress would be suitable for children, babies however is a different topic, and I would probably suggest asking your doctor.

You should select a pillow that coordinates with your child's current bed size for the best fit, as memory foam pillows do not fit into the one-size-fits-all category. Choose standard size for toddler- to single-size beds. A queen pillow will fit best on twin- and queen-size beds. Research your child's sleep position. If he spends the majority of the night on his back, a memory foam pillow will give him upper body support. A solid, contoured pillow is recommended for this sleeping style. Choose a contoured or conventional memory foam pillow for side-sleepers. Select malleable shredded memory foam pillows for children who like to fluff their pillows under their necks to fall asleep. Pick a conventional memory foam pillow for stomach sleepers. Contoured pillows are designed for neck and back-of-the-head support, and may cause discomfort for stomach sleepers. Choose a solid pillow for firm support, or a shredded pillow for a softer feel.

I am getting ready to have my first kid here in about 7 months. From what I have read, memory foam is not really safe for infants because if they roll over on their stomachs they could suffocate. They say that the best surface is a fairly solid surface for them to lay on their backs. As for my wife and I we have a memory foam mattress on our bed and we absolutely love it. We found ours for really cheap at www.bedinabox.com. We got the queen PacDown mattress. (9" memory foam core and down cover) It is awesome! Anyone in the market for one of these things should check bedinabox.com out. Hope this post helps out with your question. Does anyone know a good site to find nice safe cribs that convert to toddler beds?

They make memory foam mattresses for kids now? I would think that the material would be too tempting for children to destroy by stabbing it with toys. If the kid is mature enough this shouldn't be a problem.
